Weekly Reflection - 3rd Sunday of Ordinary Time

"Do not be saddened this day, for rejoicing in the Lord must be your strength!" (Neh 8:10)

This weekend we celebrate the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time.  The book of Nehemiah presents us the Israelites who come together to worship after a long absence.  Normally we don't value what we have until we lose it.  There are values which are handed on to us which we believe are shared by all.  When we have to defend them it forces us to rediscover them.

We live in a secular society that does not embrace Gospel values.  We are in the world but not of the world.  Christ calls us to be it's salt and light.  As we continue this new year, we must rediscover the gift of our Baptism and the need to live coherently with it.

Questions for Reflection:

  • How much time do I dedicate to daily prayer?
  • Do I have frequent contact with the scriptures in order to inform my decisions?
  • Is there any practice, habit or idea I've allowed in my life that does not line up with Christ's teachings?
