"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid." (Jn. 14:27)
This is the Sixth Sunday of Easter. The first words Pope Leo XIV said to the Church were these words of Christ. There's no doubt that they mark the greatest need in our world today. It brings us to question what the nature of true peace is. St. Pope John XXIII stated that it does not consist in the absence of war. The best way to describe today's society is that it is polarized and divided.
If we want to be peacemakers we must have the Prince of Peace in our soul. The word of God is the lamp for our path and not what we read on our social media feed. Dialogue is the vehicle to bring opposing sides together. If each of us tries to see reality from the eyes of those who don't think or look like us, we are taking the first step forward.
Questions for Reflection:
- Do I have peace in my soul?
- Do I work so that nothing or no one will make me lose my peace?
- Do I have the sufficient humility to listen to others and see reality through their eyes?
