Father Michael's Weekly Reflection

Weekly Reflection - Solemnity of Sacred Heart of Jesus

"Take my yoke upon you, says the Lord; and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart." (Mt. 11:29)

Today is the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Jesus has a human heart. Our faith uses the term "hypostatic union" to describe the reality of Jesus Christ. He is true God and true man. When Jesus the man speaks, God speaks. Jesus wept for his friend Lazarus, was betrayed by a friend, and received consolation from Veronica who wiped his face during his passion.

In revealing his heart to St. Margaret Mary he said, "At least you love me." Jesus receives enough abuse from those who don't know him. We his friends must love him not only for ourselves but also for those who don't. We can make acts of reparation to the Sacred Heart for the coldness he experiences from those he has loved and redeemed by shedding his precious blood.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I love Jesus more than myself?
  • Do I love him also for those who don't love him?
  • Do I live so that the greatest number of people may know and love him?
