Father Michael's Weekly Reflection

Weekly Reflection - 21st Sunday of Ordinary Time

"How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways!" (Rom. 11:33)

This is the 21st Sunday of Ordinary Time. God is a mystery. In life, there is a tendency to try and reduce God to our human mindset. It is liberating simply to let God be God. He is my Creator, I am his creature. He made all things and I am a minute part of his creation.

At the same time, He loves me in a unique and personal way. Christ would have gone through all the same torments if I were the only person on earth. His plan for me is eternal and better than the one I can devise for myself. My role is simply to pray that his will be done in me and in the world. When apparent contradictions happen I must remind myself that God who is all good and loving sees all things whereas I only see a small and reduced portion.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I trust in God despite apparent contradictions in my life?
  • If I look back on my life, can I see how my decisions would have led me to a different place than where I am today?
  • Do I realize that I just need to try and please God by doing his will in the present moment out of love?
