Weekly Reflection - 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time (2026)
"Brothers and sisters: Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God." (Philippians 4:6)
Today is the 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time. God expects fruit from our lives. Christ cursed a fig tree that didn't have fruit and today gives us the parable of the vineyard. When we separate God from our lives we lose sight of His expectations. Everything we are and have comes from Him. At the same time, we have been given gifts and talents to use for his glory.
Bill Murray in Groundhog Day lived one day over and over. The same can happen in our lives when we lose our passion for living. We lose sight that others depend on us sharing our gifts. St. John Paul II said "To consider life as a vocation encourages interior freedom, stirring within the person a desire for the future, as well as the rejection of a notion of existence that is passive, boring, and banal."
Questions for Reflection:
- Do I recognize that others depend on me?
- Have I accepted the lie that I don't have anything to share?
- Do I realize that I have a vocation in life?
