Father Michael's Weekly Reflection

"The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few." (Lk. 10:2)

This is the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time. Victor Frankl was a Jewish psychologist who began the school of Logotherapy. He witnessed in Auschwitz that those prisoners who had a reason to live outlived the others who suffered the same predicaments.  He noticed that the problem of humankind is the search for meaning and when no meaning is found, illness pursues.

Jesus Christ is my way, truth and life.  Gaudium et Spes states that Jesus Christ came to reveal man to himself.  In him, I find meaning and purpose.  He shows me who I am called to be and what the ultimate meaning of my life is.  In a world longing for meaning which falls prey to so many false promises, evangelization is not an option. Christ is the answer to all of humankind's questions and we must be capable of giving the reasons for the hope that is in us.

Questions for Reflection: 

• Does Christ fill my heart with meaning?
• Do I spend time regularly with Christ in prayer and meditation to renew my convictions?
• Is there anyone who is waiting to hear the reason for my hope?
